Thoughts for thursday

I was doing some more reading on "Jezebel" a few weeks ago and I found some stories that really go me thinking, and I thought Id share them with my peeps - I meant to post it last week however the "Seventeen Magazine" post .. aka rant was long enough on its own ;)

Jada Pinkett Smith response to her daughters appearance

"The question why I would LET Willow cut her hair, first the LET must be challenged. This is a world where women, girls are constantly reminded that they don't belong to themselves; that their bodies are not their own, nor their power or self determination. I made a promise to endow my little girl with the power to always know that her body, spirit and her mind are HER domain... It's also a statement that claims that even little girls have the RIGHT to own themselves and should not be a slave to even their mother's deepest insecurities, hopes and desires."

Then there was will's response.
"If I teach her that I'm in charge of whether or not she can touch her hair, she's going to replace me with some other man when she goes out in the world."

Seriously, could they be anymore amazing!

It really made me give me head a shake, I love dressing up. I love my hair done, and my nails painted. I love when my friends who do have girls (very far and few between, ugh boys!) ask me to help them with there hair, or when they tell me how pretty they think my shoes are. When I'm out with these friends, or I see people looking at children's clothes the only thing I say is if I think its cute! I alway imagined that when I have a girl, or boy. There going to looks a certain way, and have there hair a certain way. Then I read Jada's response to how she feels about her daughters looks. I agree, %100! Who am I to tell my daughter what to wear or what to do. Those choices are hers and hers alone. as Jada said "It's also a statement that claims that even little girls have the RIGHT to own themselves and should not be a slave to even their mother's deepest insecurities, hopes and desires."

Another article I read this week was about a 7 year old who may start using for chemo. children smoking tha ganja

Well I fully support the use of ganja pills, aka "medical marijuana capsules", I'm not sure how I feel about children taking the drug. In the article it says that he father is against it, but her mother and mothers boyfriend (who are stoners) agree to it. The only side effect it seems to have on the little girl so far, is it makes her feel "funny". Id be more worried about the long term effects this can have on a child. However if I had to sit there day and night watching my child suffer, I cant say I wouldn't look into this option. The fact that step daddy's growing dope raising a question if this is really all in the best interest of the child, or the stoners parents.
